Mama Bear in California: Response to Protestors Vandalzing Cars on Freeway

On May 29, 2020, “protestors” in East San Jose began vandalizing cars on Freeway 101 in response to the unjust death of George Floyd. Everyday citizens sat in their cars with their families as windows are bashed in and attempts are made to drag people out of their vehicles.

This hit me specifically hard as a mother of 3 girls ages 3 and under who sit in the backseat…the exact place where the windows I saw were broken in. First off, let’s start by calling these protestors what they really are. They are terrorists. They are using unlawful violence and intimidation against civilians.

Just imagine sitting defenseless in your car, what would you do? Would you drive away? Can you even drive away? In this situation, traffic was deadlocked with nowhere to go. You can’t leave. Maybe run away and leave your car behind? But I have 3 little girls. Flight is not an option. In the words of the great Yoda, “Fight, I must.” (okay…maybe he didn’t say that, but you totally read it in his voice didn’t you?)

Since we determined the only option, I have is to fight to protect myself and my children, what are my options. How do I neutralize this situation? Fortunately for me, I live in the United States and I have the 2nd amendment…granted I live in California, but let’s not get into that right now. I am clearly at a disadvantage. This is why the second amendment is so critical. This is way concealed carry is vital. The gun is the ultimate equalizer.

Where do we go from here? We live in a world where human life is not valued, but we must value ourselves. How do we do this? By investing in ourselves. We must become educated on self-defense, gun laws in our areas, train, purchase a firearm, apply for a concealed carry permit, and train some more.

As a woman with smaller hands and less strength I carry a Glock 26 in a Kaos Concealment Fusion 2.0 and one extra magazine. Depending on what I am carrying, purse or clutch, will dictate how much more ammo I can carry. The world we live in can be unsafe at times, and though we should not live in fear, we must be ready to defend our family and friends.
